Acording to AAA, Americans are driving less. 30 Billion miles less! Oil prices have forced people out of their cars and into busses and trains. I take everything AAA says with a grain salt. But there appears to be a major shift in America's driving habits.

My Midget just got caught in a nasty rainstorm. With the top down! About three and half inches of rain collected under the seats of the car. And, of course, it won't start. May have to have it towed home to dry out. In the mean time, I saw this orange Mini for sale online. A hard top car is looking pretty good to me right now.

I'm starting to look at getting a classic Mini again. I was originally turned off to these cars because of the high prices they seem to go for. $8,000 for a real basic model seems unreasonably high to me. Many go for over $15,000 and even into the $20,000s! Seems crazy to me, especially since an MG Midget, which has the same engine and is just as "cute" can be had for $3,000-$5,000. But recently I have seen some in the $5,000-$6,000 level which is about right. When one comes up for sale at this price it is snatched up pretty fast. In the mean time I'm happy with my Midget.

Small Cars Make a Comback

Acording to the New York Times, US car buyers are finally turning away from SUV's and buying small cars again. SUV sales are down 25 percent. It is bad news for Detroit, which has made the big (and unsafe) trucks a staple of US roads for the last 10 years. Except for the little Ford Focus, Americans have been looking overseas to Japan and Europe for more reasonable transportation. The Yaris made by Toyota has seen sales increased by 46% and Ford's Focus up 32%.

First, I want to thank all the folks who came to the show and stood in the Bergen Mall Parking lot in the blazing sun. I don't know about you, but I had a nice sunburn by the time I came home.

We had about thirty-five cars to the show. Not quite the turnout I was expecting. But I am thankful for the cars that did come. We handed out some trophies. Had some hot dogs. And saw some pretty nice cars.

I'm taking a break from the car show promotion biz. I really wore myself down this summer going to shows and handing out fliers. Next summer I want to relax and enjoy some car shows without worrying about attracting people to my show.

So look for more post on this site about classic cars, new hybrid cars, the latest exotic cars and my adventures driving around in my MG. I'm leaving the car shows to pros for now on.

Remember, the Bergen Mall is on Route 4 East at Forest Ave.

If you are coming from Fort Lee, take Route 4 East about 5 miles. You will pass "Riverside Square Mall" and Hackensack Ave. You will see The big 10 plex movie theater and "Toys R Us" on your left. The Bergen Mall is just past that on your left. Take Forest Ave exit(s) and go over overpass.

If you are comming from the Gargen State Parkway, Take Route 4 West. The Bergen Mall is about 1 mile past Route 17 (Don't get on Route 17!) You will also pass the "Garden State Plaza" and "Sam Ash Music Store" I'll have signs out for you.

Consult a map before you leave. I hate getting lost on the way to a car show.

Got to love this weather. Christmas lights are going up but it still feels like Fall. Been driving the MG everywhere. Took it to work in Lower Manhattan a couple of times last week. My co-workers thought it was a trip. Driving down Riverside Drive is real nice. Parking is obviously easy. Got to watch the pot-holes. Otherwise, it is very pleasent.

I've spotted a handfull of Citroen's parked around Tenafly, but I've never seen one on the go, before! The Citroen DS is something to behold. Light years ahead of it's time. But you need real skills to keep these on the road. French cars are very complicated.

Got the Midget back from the garage. It's driving much better now. It stalled out while I was backing out of my garage. Took me a while, but I got it running again. The headlights went off for a while last night. Not sure what that was about. But they came back on as I kept driving. Glad to have the car back. Nothing like driving an MG!

Car was driving great for last two weeks. But it stalled out tues night while i was on a date. I think I let the gas tank get too low and some sediment clogged the fuel line. My new radiator from MOSS came in. So when that gets installed, Tony will check out the fuel line situation.

Well, by all accounts the 2006 Bergen Museum Car Show was a great success! About 30 cars came by throughout the day. Many from the "MG Experience" Message Board, and the "NJ Z Car Club." Also a group of Chevy's, a Bel air, Alfa's, a Mini, a Thunderbird, and many more. The weather was perfect. A bit warm in the sun, but the parking lot was lined with trees, so there was plenty of shade to found. All and all, I am very happy with the turn out and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I'm determined to start early for next year. Going to focus on a few local clubs and start going to some of the local "Cruise Nights" hand out fliers for this website.

These are just a few photos I took with my cell phone after I ran out of rilm in my camara. Better pics later. Including the trophy winners.

My long quest came to an end two days ago: I aquired a 1974 MG Midget in Sea Bright, NJ. It has a fuel leak and needs a few other things. Other wise seems pretty sound. Working on insurance and registration right now. Hope to get it on the road in late October. It's real nice, right?

Here is the interior of the 1965 MG Midget I looked at last week. What a nice layout! All the switches are within arm's reach but without being all crowded together. Ripped seat can be fixed or replaced.

Found another one! Owner is checking to see if he can sell it. A real classic. Has a good amount of body rust but the floors are solid and engine looks good. Will take a lot of work to get this car back to it's original condition. But it's a true gem in the rough. Should know in a few days wheither I can take her home.

Nanjing Auto motive's announcement that they plan to introduce a new MG into the U.S. Market has got the classic MG community abuzz! (A factory is planed in Ardmore, Oklahoma. It will make a new version of the MG TF. A U.S. headquarters will be located in Oklahoma City.) Some classicists are not thrilled about a new TF. (Boring..) I think an updated version of the Midget is the only way to go. Givin the run away success of the New MINI, I think there is a definite demand for a new sporty, smart, little car in the States. Better yet, give it a hybrid engine. If the quality can meet the New MINI I think a New Midget would be the next big (or..a?..little) thing to hit the U.S. car market.

Tenafly could be Mercedes capital in New Jersey. They are everywhere! Wolfgangs on County Road sells and fixes them. And another Mercedes Shop is off County (across from Friendy's). Udo's in Tenafly (also on County Rd) always has a few Mercedes parked outside waiting for some attention. It makes me think that instead of getting an MG, maybe I should consider one of these German work horses?

Wow! is all I can say. First time seeing one of these on the road (or parked on a street -in this case 73rd street off Broadway). Totally hot!! The black makes this Exige look much more serious then some of those bright colors I see these cars painted up in in magazine ads. If you get one, get it in black.

This one i didn't have to chase. Found it parked on South End Ave. A real fine example. I'm a Midget man, myself. But this car makes me reconsider the slightly larger B.
BTW: I was at "A Mickey Dezuzio Antique Cars" in Englewood, NJ today. He is going out of business. He has some cars left including a Blue MGC in running condition that he will sell to you for a song (about $1400). It needs some work. But a great project car. Finally the MGB gave up on trying to find a parking spot and headed for the West Side Highway. (You can see Ground Zero in the background.) After seeing this car in action up close, I now know I have to have one.

As I was pulling out of my parking lot in Battery Park City (where I work) I see a green MGB! They are a rare sight in the city. I pulled out my camera phone and hit the gas. He was trying to find a parking spot down there (no easy feat). I was able to get a couple shots of it turned onto the West Side Highway.

I saw this Honda Insight while driving to work on the Palisades Interstate. This car looks great and gets amazing mpg. And since I was having trouble keeping up with it, it seems to go pretty fast, too. I would have a hard time making a choice between an Insight and a new MINI. The MINI is a hot car. But the Insight is like a time machine into the future. Tough call.

"HEALEY, one of the classic names in British sports cars, is to be revived by a consortium including David James, the Conservative Party adviser and company doctor, The Times has learnt.
The Project Kimber consortium, which tried to acquire the assets of MG Rover and then the MG brand last year, has bought the Healey name from the family of Donald Healey, the rally driver and the business’s founder, who died in 1988.

The consortium plans to start production — possibly in Coventry — of a new retro-style sports car towards the end of next year, with an annual output of up to 15,000 cars and initially employing about 200 people." More..

A tiny, three-wheeled car that could help solve city congestion has been demonstrated at the University of Bath.

The prototype Clever (Compact Low Emission Vehicle for Urban Transport) car is one metre wide and less polluting than normal vehicles.

It has a top speed of 100 km/h (60mph) and uses a novel tilting chassis to make it safe and manoeuvrable.

Among the famous makes represented at the Antique Truck Show are Autocar, Brockway, Chevrolet, Diamond T, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Mack, REO, Studebaker, White, and many other not-so-well-known makes, like Acme, FWD, Kissell, Mascar, Nash and Sterling. Fire trucks are represented by American-Lafrance, Mack, Ward-Lafrance, Pirsch, and others. A large variety of styles such as tankers, flats, dumps, vans, buses, and a large assortment of over-the-road tractors and trailers are featured. Many pick-up trucks will be on display for looking and photographing.

The Truck-Related flea market offers a huge assortment of mechanical and trim parts at reasonable prices along with a selection of toys, T-shirts, caps, literature, and truck supplies of all kinds. There is also a truck corral featuring "Trucks For Sale." A craft show will also be held on the grounds.

Macungie Memorial Park also has a swimming pool, tennis court, ball diamond, food stands, and lots of shady, grassy areas ideal for picnicking. The level grassy park makes it ideal for handicapped individuals and families. Overnight camping sites (self-contained units only) are available for a small charge.

There is no admission charge to the Antique Truck Show for spectators.

The Mack Trucks, Inc. Macungie Assembly Plant will also be open for tours on Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This tour is self-guided and will take approximately one to one and a half hours to complete.

Round trip transportation via bus will be provided to get from the Antique Truck Show to the plant and back. No individual cars will be permitted to park at the plant, with the exception of handicap visitor vehicles displaying a valid handicap parking tag. To ride the bus, go to Walnut Street at Macungie Memorial Park. The bus is free-of-charge and will run from 10:00 a.m. through to the final departure to the plant at 3:00 p.m.

Make sure to stop at The Mack Shop during the show for all your Mack Bulldog needs. The Mack Shop at the Macungie plant will be open to tour visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18. You can also visit The Mack Shop booth at Macungie Memorial Park on June 17 and 18, 2005.

Here are two cars I was so happy to have at the Bergen Museum Car Show last month. I was offered the chance to take one of these for a spin but had to decline since I was working that day. My loss. While red is the most popular color for these British icons, I think orange is way cooler. And solid black gives the Mini that classic London taxi look.

I saw this the other day while driving down Peirmont Road From Creskill to Tenafly, NJ. It's a 1950's Citroen DS! Truly one of the great cars of the last century: it was ahead of it's time in so many ways. This one is sporting a big dent in it's rear door. The owner say's he needs to sell it because he no longer has a garage to keep it.

The Trophy Winner at the Bergen Museum's 2005 Car Show

The show came off great! About 30 cars showed up. The President of the Bergen Museum was very happy with the whole event and is already talking about next year's show. We will pick a date for 2006 in a few weeks.

I'll post more photos from the show as I get them developed. Feel free to post any suggestions for the next car show on the 'message board' to the left (launches slowly).

Car Show in Paramus Sould Be Great!

It's really coming together now. Big news is I think some cars from The Greater New York Citroen and Velosolex Touring Club will make an appearance. I spoke to one of the co-founders this week and he seemed pretty excited about the event. (There is an article about the club in this month's "Hemming's Sport Car and Exotic Magazine.") So far, about ten car clubs have expressed some interest in coming to the show.

In case you are just tunning in, I am organizing this year's Bergen Museum Car Show to be held on September 18th at the Bergen Mall in Paramus, New Jersey. It is part of the Bergen Museum of Art and Science annual Music and Art Festival. It is open to all makes, both domestic and import. This is my first car show. I have contacted many New Jersey/New York car clubs and have gotten a very warm response from most of them. How many actually turn out for the show remains to be seen but even if we get just a few cars from each club, it will result in a real nice show. I can't wait til the 18th!

Bergen Museum Car Show September 18th

The Car Show is coming together nicely. Many New Jersey car clubs have expressed interest in coming. And several individuals have seen ads for the show and called to ask if they can bring their GTO or Mini, etc. (The answer is "Yes!") I'm hopeing to have about 250-300 cars come out for the event. Something I didn't stress very much to the clubs is that there will be activities for children, music, art for sale, etc. In other words, "Bring your families along!" It should be a great afternoon. I'm working on getting some cars you don't normally see. For example, some Citoens, DeLoreans, Renaults... I want there to be cars from all over the world there!

The Bergen Museum Car Show at the Bergen Mall, Paramus, NJ on Sunday September 18

I know this is short notice. I'm putting
together a classic car show for the Bergen Museum of
Art and Science in Paramus, NJ on Sunday Sept 18th. I am a volunteer
at the museum. It will be part of the museum's annual Arts and Crafts
show. The event is free for everyone. No parking fees. We have
permits from the town of Paramus. It will be held in parking
lot of the Bergen Mall (where Macy's used to be). Event
starts at 10am. Cars should arrive at 9:30. I'm looking
for car clubs or individual car owners. Imports or domestic
cars are fine. Event will be very casual and fun. If you
are interested or think your favorite car club may be
interested or you just want more info send an email to:

Welcome to JERSEY Mini. You'll find some good links for MG Midgets, MGB's, Mini's and other classic British cars sites here. I don't own a British car yet. But I hope to own one or another classic import some day. I have also included sites for other British cars, such as Triumphs, and Jaguars and other European imports like Mercedes, BMW, and Saab.
